Joining JAWS

Everyone who identifies with the aims and objectives of JAWS is welcomed as a member. Membership with JAWS offers the opportunity to connect with anthropologists working on a wide range of topics related to the anthropology and ethnography of Japan.

What are the benefits if I join JAWS?
Benefits of membership include the JAWS Newsletter (electronically posted on this website), membership to a mailing list (listserv), and participation at JAWS conferences that meet roughly every 18 months.
Early career scholars can apply for travel grants to attend JAWS conferences and for English language editing grants. Membership also includes a 70 percent discount on all hardback books in the JAWS-Routledge series and a 20 percent discount on other imprints of Routledge.

How much is the membership and how long does it last?
We have instituted a Lifetime Membership for only £25 / €30 / $40 / ¥4000.

How can I terminate it?
Life Membership terminates for the following reasons:
– when a member asks for the membership to terminate or dies.
– if a member should use the facilities to damage the reputation of JAWS. A decision about termination of membership will be taken by the officers.

Ok, I am interested in the membership, how can I join?
Please note that there is no membership form. You just need to make the transaction (of £25 / €30 / $40 / ¥4000) to the JAWS bank account (details below) and then send a proof of the payment via email (a screenshot is fine) to the JAWS Treasurer and Membership Secretary, Dr Giulia De Togni at jawstreasurer(at)gmail.com.
Please, remember to include your name when making the payment, especially if you are using Wise. If you do not include your name, the transaction will appear as nameless and we will not be able to identify whether it was you who made the payment.
Once we receive a proof of payment from you, you will immediately be added to the mailing list and officially become a JAWS member. Please, if in the future you change institutions or retire, make sure that we have your updated email address. Just drop an email to the JAWS Treasurer and Membership Secretary, Dr Giulia De Togni at jawstreasurer(at)gmail.com.
